About the role

The Opportunity We are representing an established mechanical services contractor who is looking to strengthen their Projects & Contracts team with the appointment of an experienced Mechanical Estimator. This is a key commercial position for someone who understands mechanical construction, can interpret technical information and produce accurate, competitive tenders within tight deadlines. You will be responsible for preparing detailed estimates for mechanical construction projects, working closely with clients, suppliers, engineers and contractors to ensure projects are priced accurately and commercially.

Key responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications, schematics and other project documentation to establish project scope.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for mechanical construction projects.
  • Calculate quantities and costs for labour, materials, plant and equipment.
  • Prepare and submit competitive tenders and quotations.
  • Prepare and submit PQQ and ITT documentation.
  • Conduct site visits where required to assess project requirements.
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Obtain and negotiate competitive quotations from suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Identify commercial, financial and operational risks within tenders.
  • Ensure estimates accurately reflect project requirements and current market conditions.
  • Maintain detailed estimating records and tender documentation.
  • Keep up to date with current material, labour and industry costs.
  • Support the Projects and Contracts team throughout the tendering process.
  • Ensure all tenders are completed accurately and submitted within required deadlines.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience working as a Mechanical Estimator or in a similar position.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical construction systems and engineering principles.
  • Experience estimating commercial mechanical projects.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and commercial skills.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications and schematics.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight tender deadlines.
  • Relevant higher-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline is advantageous.
  • CAD experience would be preferred.
  • Experience with SimPro would be beneficial.
  • CRM/software experience.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
